Background

Mix Master Dj Ramon

The pied piper of music transforming individuals through infectious sounds and creating a positive atmosphere.” That’s how Ramon describes himself as a DJ. Never afraid to go too deep, his emotive musical selections are his own therapy. Growing up on the island of Jamaica, DJ Ramon was heavily influenced by R&B music. At that time, Reggae’s music was not played on the radio often and his early exposures were to R&B, soul, and country music. His love for music began “before [he] even knew [his] own name”. At age 10, he started purchasing music to fuel his passion. “Growing up, my favorite childhood memory was running to the record shop with my lunch money whenever there was a new album released. I always wanted to remain on top of the music game!” While playing music, he began to practice, emulating the voice and dialect of his most influential DJs and sound selectors. Radio Disc Jockey, Barrington Seymour “Boogie Man” and “Barry G” Gordon, was Ramon’s first inspiration. DJ Ramon hails him as the greatest radio presenter of all time. In addition, he attributes his current skills and success to other radio disc jockeys (Richard “Richie B” Burgess, Donovan Dacres, Kurt Riley, Colin Hines) and Sound system selectors (Rory – Stone love Sound, Squingy – Bass Odyssey Sound, Tony Matterhorn, and Fire Links). Music is universal so Ramon believes that it is his duty to understand and be intentional about the impact of his influence. This has not been a smooth road. While I stand firm in the belief that music is the gateway to so many learning and healing opportunities, I’ve had my time where I had to choose between family and music. Music is my passion, but it doesn’t take the place of my family. When I was younger and starting a family, I couldn’t travel and missed many opportunities. However, I’m certain that I would have missed more milestones in the lives of my children. Also, we all know that the arts don’t pay the bills. I have had my stint and am now a solid business owner which allows me to pursue my passion again, but with lots more knowledge and purpose. I’m a DJ. A very active member of his local community, Ramon is no stranger to the ups and downs of the music scene. Though he loves playing in clubs, on the radio, and for special events, his love for music goes beyond the spectrum of mixing tunes. DJ Ramon has the vision to make an impact on the world through music. Thus, he created the “Spotlight Segment” as a part of his FYAH Mix program on FunVibesRadio where his goal is “to expose new talent and pay homage to foundation artistes”. He intends to create space for a community where artists can join together and teach one anotherabout critical music business topics such as professionalism, marketing, and music rights. When you listen to DJ Ramon, you never know what you are going to get. His music programs are best described as “anything goes” where you will hear the gospel, country, reggae music, and anything in between. Ramon is, also, the founder of Black Rain Sound.
